The Calgary Script typeface family is an exploration of the visual memory of hand-painted signage in the North American urban landscape. Originally inspired by the welcome signs of the city of Calgary, the typeface synthesizes decades of American sign-painting tradition into a dynamic digital system. Academically, it stands out for its ability to capture the fluidity of the brush through bold uppercase letters (heady caps) and free-flowing lowercase letters, achieving an aesthetic that oscillates between mid-century optimism and the visual culture of the early 1980s. It is a piece that champions hand-painted lettering as an agent of local and commercial identity.
