Lyons was a custom font developed for Rob Lyons, a musician from Seattle, WA, whose career has spanned from Broadway to his solo project. In this case, MxT Lyons was created for his debut album, “When It Haunts You.” Rob wanted a typeface that was expressive and possessed the same personal power as his music—the same style that would later be used for his personal logo. So, a handwritten style was developed that first formed his name, and once finalized, it was used as the basis for creating the missing characters—including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, diacritics, and symbols. The style mimics the stroke of letters written with a ballpoint pen, featuring a uniform stroke but also elements that lend it a sense of speed. It clearly lacks a stroke grid; the character proportions are asymmetrical, and there is no apparent baseline to provide a visual guide for character alignment—but that is the intention: to convey a sense of casual, expressive handwriting.
