Touch Me is a hand-drawn script typeface—designed by Coto Mendoza—that is the result of polyrhythmic exploration, the deconstruction of symbols, and the interplay of calligraphic contrasts altered with a watercolor brush. Coto has used these experimental calligraphic techniques to create the slogans for Macarons, Boho Family, Bikini Season Script, and Matcha Script, among others. “Tócame” was inspired by a character from a story written by Coto while attending a literary workshop with Ina Groovie in Santiago, Chile. The character is a tribal girl who lives on a Caribbean island. She is the heir to ancestral knowledge and possesses a wild beauty—passionate and sensual: intense, strong, and free. These characteristics are reflected in the polyrhythm of the typeface’s curves: an irregular baseline, variable x-height, varying lengths of initial and terminal strokes (which sometimes expand and sometimes contract), and varying brush pressure that creates changes in contrast within the characters. Thus, when typesetting, characters with stroke contrast alternate randomly with monolinear characters and those with altered contrast, thanks to the font’s OpenType programming. The family, with over 3,000 glyphs, offers a range of alternate characters, hyphens, ligatures, initial and terminal forms—in short, a vast ocean of options! Touch Me is a spontaneous typeface with a fresh and unique personality. It’s the perfect choice for short texts in both print and digital formats. The family comes with a Script Regular version and a seductive Script Drop that you’ll really love. The Extras set includes some keywords, dingbats, and ornaments that allow for endless composition options. The family also includes a Caps version—designed by Luciano Vergara—in two styles: a playful, bold condensed Sans Grotesk with inverted vertical proportions and a neutral, slightly expressive Grotesk Petite. Both versions, available in 6 weights, have been specially designed to create hierarchies when typesetting. This allows for a balance between strokes of different weights when working with the Sans and Script fonts. Come on, give it a try! Touch me!
