Alborada is a digital typeface developed by Chilean designer Camila Ríos Palma, based on the book *Carmela y La Alborada*.

This digital font is a historical typographic revival of the typeface used to set the masthead of Chile’s first feminist workers’ newspaper, *La Alborada*, by typographer Carmela Jeria Gómez in 1905. Jeria’s feminist propaganda was closely linked to the illustration, which served as the conceptual basis for developing two variants of the digital font under the concept of “enlightenment.” The result is a digital version based on the eight letters printed in the newspaper, along with two variants referencing the “enlightenment” that Chilean women needed to achieve to attain emancipation.

Camila’s motivation for designing this typeface was to highlight and celebrate the typographic legacy of Chilean women—specifically, that of an overlooked female figure who was a pioneer in the field of typography and in the development of feminist-labor themes in Chile.
