The Collabtype Project (2021) is our initiative to design the world’s largest typeface in collaboration with various contributors who are joining us in this process—no design expertise required.

Our goal may sound ambitious, but our main motivation is to share and create together. That’s why we’ve adopted simple working methods to reach typeface enthusiasts who don’t have professional tools.

The workshops have been held both remotely and in person, using digital and analog media. The workshops conclude with the W Type Foundry team digitizing the typeface, which is then made available for free download.

This project began in 2021 and has undergone various iterations and methodologies to date:

#01 New Latin Wave, New York, USA – 97 creators (2021)
#02 Type Thursday, Barcelona, Spain – 90 creators (2021)
#03 WTF, Santiago, Chile – 100 designers (2022)
#04 EINA, Barcelona, Spain – 26 designers (2022)
#05 Impresionante, Santiago, Chile – 39 designers (2022)
#06 UTEM, Santiago, Chile – 15 authors (2022)
#07 UDD, Santiago, Chile – 60 authors (2023)
#08 Encontro de Tipografia, Lisbon, Portugal - 22 authors (2023)
#09 Mala Impresión, Santiago, Chile - 18 authors (2024)
