Specimen Hoffman Grotesk
Note. Specimen of the typeface Hoffman Grotesk. Copyright by W Type Foundry.

Inspired by Swiss designer Armin Hofmann, this typeface belongs to the grotesque style and features three alternative styles. The default style, designed with versatility in mind, is particularly useful for medium-length texts and articles, as well as for logos and various types of web applications. Its details reveal its own distinct personality.

The “display” style (G, Q, a, g, h, m, n, r, t, u) emphasizes this personality, creating eye-catching compositions and short texts that stand out on their own. The “classic” alternative set (R, a, l, y) includes more understated options, ideal for creating any type of text, logos, and other compositions without distracting users. All of these alternatives are excellent choices for meeting any graphic design need.

On the other hand, Hofmann Grotesk offers six font options, ranging from the “Compressed” super heavy weight, through the “Medium” super heavy weight, to the “Expanded” super heavy weight, each with its respective italics. This extension takes a different approach, focusing more on organic form. Its characters and terminals are more fluid and harmonious, especially at large sizes.

Although they differ, they retain their original essence, thereby creating their own distinct personality. This version includes two alternative character sets. The “Organic” set (Q, a, l, y) emphasizes more fluid shapes, with a understated and elegant personality, yet featuring natural forms. The second set, “Classic” (G, R, a), combines humanist forms to create a distinct personality.
