Surco is a typeface family for titles that emerged from an interest in banknotes and the way in which Mexican identity is (or is not) represented in them. It was built on two adjectives that unite all corners of the country and permeate all our culture(s): mestizo and colorful (understood more broadly as "tasty", with a baroque mentality that seeks maximum aesthetic expression). In addition, because it was intended for banknotes, it was important to convey solidity and stability.
