Agustina Serif is a revival-style text typeface based on the letterforms found in the book Arte de la Lengua Mexicana , printed in 1673 in Mexico City by the Novo-Hispanic printer Francisco Rodríguez Lupercio and written by the Franciscan chronicler Agustín de Vetancurt, after whom it is named. This book is one of the most important works of the colonial period dedicated to the study of Nahuatl, the language of the Mexica (also known as Aztecs). In addition to being a historian, Vetancurt showed a deep interest in indigenous languages, and his work reflects both a missionary perspective and a genuine respect for the structure and complexity of Nahuatl.
