Sanomat Sans is a geometric sans serif typeface that includes variants for display and text. It was originally designed by Vincent Chan and Christian Schwartz as part of Sami Valtere's 2013 redesign for Helsingin Sanomat, Finland's most respected national newspaper. This newspaper, which since its founding in 1889 under the name Päivälehti had been published in a large format, was relaunched in January 2013 in a smaller tabloid format.

The distinct elegance of Sanomat Sans helped to maintain the quality feel characteristic of a newspaper, even in its new, more compact format. Sanomat Sans Text, on the other hand, was specifically designed to offer clarity and legibility in smaller text sizes. To counteract the visual monotony caused by the repetition of letters in Finnish words, the letter bowls feature an overall asymmetry, giving the typeface a warm tone closer to that of a humanist sans serif.

Although Sanomat Sans' design was not directly inspired by W.A. Dwiggins' Metro, the latter is considered a clear precursor in the subgenre of organic geometric sans serifs, to which Sanomat Sans belongs.
