Oscar Niemeyer is one of the greatest architects of our time. His unique way of blending straight lines and abstract curves results in an unmistakable and distinctive style. This typeface is my own tribute to the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. The design process began when my wife and I visited Brazil while she was teaching a series of calligraphy workshops. In my free time, I wandered the streets of beautiful cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, enjoying the local architecture and urban life. I also had the opportunity to attend some of the workshops, during which I was able to observe the organic nature of calligraphy and the people. So, I began sketching some shapes that reflected everything about this beautiful place: Niemeyer’s architecture and work and, in his own words, “the curves of the beloved woman’s body.” This versatile typeface is available in 8 weights with matching italics, alternate characters, old-style figures, and much more. Niemeyer is ideal for logos, advertising, publications, branding, and corporate use. Special thanks to the entire Latinotype team (especially César Araya) for their support, help with proofreading, and digital editing.
