El Sol is a custom display typeface designed by Óscar Yáñez based on the redesign of the masthead of the newspaper El Sol de México. Commissioned by creative director Óscar Santiago, the typeface family responds to the need to adapt to 28 regional editions - "El Sol de (locality)"- guaranteeing brand coherence and legibility in each masthead. Its construction is based on medium-width features with moderate contrasts, optimized to maintain clarity in large and medium sizes. The condensed version allows for more efficient use of space in narrower headers, while the small caps set offers tonal uniformity and hierarchical flexibility in subtitles or secondary headers. ElSol combines adaptability and editorial presence, strengthening the visual identity of each regional edition without losing typographic consistency.
