Adios Script represents one of the most ambitious exercises in technical refinement in Alejandro Paul’s career. Based on commercial lettering guidelines from the 1940s, the typeface transcends historical revival to become a system of advanced typographic engineering. With a character set of 1,470 characters, the project tackles the critical challenge of digital calligraphy: the interaction of ascenders and descenders without causing visual collisions. Through exhaustive programming of variants—exemplified by the 43 versions of the lowercase “h”— Adios Script enables a fluid and balanced text architecture, where the exuberance of the swashes is integrated into a system of formal interoperability that ensures compositional harmony in the OpenType environment.
