Cátedra is a typeface that originated from a commission to design the lettering for the restoration and redesign of the heraldic crest of the Universidad de Guadalajara. The project aimed to develop a modern yet respectful interpretation, closely aligned with the 1925 version of the emblem.
Using the lettering present in the historical references as a starting point, the project later evolved into a broader design space. In this stage, the width masters and contrast axis were set aside, allowing the typeface to consolidate a more defined voice. The result emphasizes a modern, high-contrast aesthetic, while retaining subtle gestures that connect it to the neo-colonial style that was prevalent in Guadalajara in the early 20th century.
