This is a typographic rescue designed by Cristóbal Henestrosa with the collaboration of Óscar Yáñez. It is based on an experimental font called Charter, designed -although never completed- by the famous William Addison Dwiggins (1880-1956). It is a vertical italic whose handwritten letters do not connect; its main characteristics are prominent contrast, condensed forms and exaggerated ascenders. Although Dwiggins worked several years on Charter, he only completed the lowercase letters and a few other characters. The specimens Christopher used were the original WAD sketches and printing proofs preserved at the Boston Public Library, as well as a copy of The Song-Story of Aucassin and Nicolette (Mount Vernon, The Golden Eagle Press, 1946). This precious family can be used successfully in titles, subtitles, and short texts from 12 points and up, in fashion magazines, light news, advertising, poetry, albums, and book covers. This project began in 2010, when Cristobal was studying in Type@Cooper's extended program in New York. An earlier version was selected to be part of the Tipos Latinos 2018 Biennial.
