Lexend fonts are intended to reduce visual stress and thus improve reading performance. They were initially designed with dyslexia and struggling readers in mind, but Bonnie Shaver-Troup, creator of the Lexend project, soon discovered that these fonts are great for everyone else as well. Thomas Jockin's first set of Lexend fonts (Deca, Exa, Giga, Mega, Peta, Tera, Zetta) becomes wider and more open-spaced (aka "traced"). This new version of Lexend is a variable font with a weighted axis. Note that the initial version of this font had a lighter Regular weight. For the July 2021 update, it was decided to align the Regular weight with that of Lexend Deca, which is a bit bolder. Therefore, Lexend and Lexend Deca are the same (for now...). Ultimately, this version will offer a HyperExpansion axis that will allow for variation of the inner and outer spacing of the letterforms. True to Bonnie's vision, Lexend fonts are freely available to all from 2019 on Google Fonts.
