The Macarons typeface family consists of a monoline version, in regular and bold weights, and a set of gestural keywords that reflect the use of the ruled pen as a freehand tool. It also includes ornaments and dingbats. Macarons is a screen typeface based on the classic Garamond. It draws inspiration from gastronomic culture and the slow food movement, which began as a rebellion against fast food and has now grown on a global scale. Every day, thousands of people around the world take photos of their food, search for new recipes to try and rediscover old ones, enjoy pairing wines, and value locally produced foods. Macarons is a fresh, spontaneous-looking typeface designed by Coto Mendoza, who has also developed a line of artisanal products (Ride my Bike, Ride my Bike Serif, Four Seasons, D.I.Y. Time, Dans le Cuisine, and In a Jar). This typeface is not built from modules: each character is hand-drawn. Macarons is ideal for cookbooks, menus, liquor bottle labels, food packaging, wedding invitations, greeting cards, tea boxes, food blogs, small shops, cupcake bakeries, and more. Give it a try! A freshly baked homemade macaron! Based in Concepción and Santiago, Chile, the founders of Latinotype state: “Our goal is to design new typefaces by blending various influences related to our South American identity with high-quality products for the contemporary design industry.” And the duo has been doing just that since founding their type foundry in 2007. Luciano Vergara and Daniel Hernández, one of the most successful type foundries on MyFonts in recent years, have built a rapidly growing collection of typefaces across a wide range of genres. The group’s name, “Latinotype”—which specializes in vibrant, colorful typefaces—underscores the strong connection they feel to their cultural identity.
