Maya glyphs are based on the contrast between the outer perimeter of the sign and its inner features, drawn in thinner lines. Their appearance, more than of writing "lines", is of small "packages" of syllabic and logographic information. Neocodex was born from the risky idea of combining these glyphic features with the Latin letter, using classical Mayan curves, which move away from rigid geometry and possess an asymmetrical and flexible beauty. The result, interestingly, has a rather contemporary personality, flirting with the "cyber" aesthetics of our days. The Neocodex variants derive directly from the characteristics of the glyphs: the slant is taken from the calligraphy of the magnificent Dresden Codex and other ceramic texts; the outlines are inspired by the typical thick outline of glyphs written and sculpted in stone.
