Luchita Payol is a typeface in a worn fantasy style, designed from the linoleum carved letters used in Mexican wrestling posters, specifically by the traditional Imprenta Payol. It was digitized in 2000-2001 by Quique Ollervides, of Burö Gráfico studio. Its forms are deliberately rough and arched, with abrupt angles and an irregular stroke, replicating the visual and emotional strength of fair and arena posters.
The typography has two variants:
Luchita Payol Técnica: thinner, it maintains the artisanal and functional spirit of the old posters.
Luchita Payol Ruda: with a thicker and more forceful stroke, it includes decorative glyphs suitable for powerful headlines.
Both families were conceived for use in tall boxes and designed exclusively for titles, large headlines. Their identity is immediate: they evoke the epic and theatricality of wrestling, popular culture and Mexican street design of the mid-20th century.
