Tuki Glifos is part of a broad family of fonts designed for writing the Mixe language. It is the first font to incorporate the glyphs of the Epiolmecan script: a syllabic and logographic system that is likely the oldest written record on the American continent.
Tuki includes 68 syllabic glyphs, 91 logograms, and 20 numerals documented on two archaeological artifacts: the La Mojarra Stele and the Tuxtla Statuette.
It also includes a set of numerals from the “Long Count”—a vigesimal system used by various Mesoamerican peoples.
It features OpenType functions for symbol substitution and supports vertical writing mode. The digitization and reinterpretation of these symbols are part of a project that seeks to bring this ancient writing system into the present and recover part of the cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples, whose written history began long before the adoption of the Latin alphabet.
