Phonos is a text font family, AFI-compatible and specially designed for phonetic use. It is designed to compose phonological and phonetic transcriptions, vocabularies, academic, didactic and reference texts. With a neo-humanist style, it has calligraphic-inspired strokes and terminals and simple and straightforward forms that help the recognition of phonetic symbols in complex contexts. The family consists of two variants: Regular and Italic, both with an extensive character repertoire that includes the updated symbols and modifiers of the International Phonetic Alphabet and supports more than 200 languages. It also has a number of OpenType features including nine digit styles, standard and discretionary ligatures, fractions, small caps, stylistic sets, and contextual alternatives, specially designed and programmed to aid phonetic transcription in specific contexts.
