Canela is an elegant typeface that defies many traditional classifications. Designed by Miguel Reyes, its forms are in an ambiguous space between soft yet crisp shapes, modern yet with classical roots. Canela began as an interpretation of Caslon, but Reyes gradually took the family in a new direction, shedding its classical roots and leaving only a vestige of flaring at the ends of the strokes, acquiring a monumental quality influenced by his experience with stone carving. Delicate in its lightest form, with softly flared strokes, as the weight increases to the blackest it takes on an entirely different sense of warmth.
