Specimen Xóchitl
Note. Specimen of the typeface Xóchitl. Copyright by Isabela Santillana, Sofia Adame.

"Xóchitl" is a display typeface that captures the essence of the signage found on the traditional trajineras of Xochimilco, a place located southeast of Mexico City, also known as the “land of the floating gardens.” Xochimilco is currently designated as a World Heritage Site.

The typeface’s design features rounded corners with broad, curved strokes; the stroke style is intended to reflect the character of the signage commonly used in Mexico’s popular culture. Letters such as the “R,” “X,” and “K” allude to the cempasúchil flower, emblematic of the region. This project seeks to honor our roots and culture, which connect us and remain strong and alive.
