The Regional typeface family is an in-depth exploration of the Old Style Bold typefaces that proliferated in type foundries in the late 19th century. The project is structured around a distinctive feature: the idiosyncratic diagonal of the capital “R,” whose morphology serves as the generative axis for a vast library of alternate characters. Academically, Regional represents a transition from nineteenth-century rigidity toward a polyphonic typeface system, capable of ranging from condensed, delicate expressiveness to the boldness of a black expansion. This suite of 27 styles not only revives a historical typeface but also endows it with a modern architecture, optimized for visual hierarchy in publishing and global brand identity design.
