This typeface family was specifically conceived for use in the print and digital versions of the Diccionario del español de México, a flagship work of El Colegio de México. Although its main use is intended for this publication, the client retains the possibility of using it in other editorial materials. The editors' intention was that the selected typography would contribute to underline certain attributes that they consider representative of the work: modernity, contemporaneity, seriousness, reflection, objectivity and a playful tone.
It is a low-contrast family -that is, with subtle differences between thick and thin strokes- and a generous x-height, characteristics that favor legibility in reduced typographic bodies. The condensed design of the letters, in combination with an appropriate choice of leading and line spacing, makes it possible to optimize the use of column space, reducing the number of lines per page and, consequently, significantly reducing the total length of the work. This quality is particularly advantageous in a large-volume publication such as a dictionary.
