This typeface was designed for setting long blocks of text, in situations where saving space is the primary requirement. It has a generous “x-height” and relatively short ascenders and descenders. The counters are wider than standard, improving readability at small sizes. Its internal shapes avoid being modular and uniform, appearing instead organic and distinct from one another. In terms of proportions, this design features slightly narrower characters without being condensed. The uppercase letters have similar widths, a feature that gives it a modern feel; although it is an old Roman typeface family, certain design details place this new typeface within the group of contemporary serif fonts. The stroke of this family has medium contrast, with pronounced oblique modulation, which causes the part of the characters with the greatest ink weight to be found on the horizontal lines—more precisely, in the upper-right and lower-left corners—a fact that, together with its robust serifs, contributes to better word formation. Its stroke is semi-soft; its characters combine straight lines with soft, calligraphic-inspired elements. The characters in this family are slightly darker in color than those of the Book typeface, a characteristic that lends it a robustness that works well in blocks of text.
