Huemul Slab is a tribute to Clarendon and Rockwell. Although both typefaces feature bold slab serifs, their proportions differ significantly. Clarendon’s proportions are based on transitional typefaces, giving it a more uniform and wider structure, while Rockwell follows classical proportions, resulting in greater variation among the letterforms. Huemul Slab bridges the character of Rockwell with the more modern proportions typical of transitional typefaces, achieving a contemporary look. The result is a low-contrast typeface with aligned heights, ready for modern use but with a touch of classic elegance.
